PRINCE GEORGE CANCER CENTRE

The Prince George Cancer Centre at the University Hospital of Northern BC, when completed, will be a LEED Gold project with unique features such as a green roof; a therapeutic garden incorporating medicinal native plants, a smudging pavilion, water feature, and large covered outdoor seating area; and ‘water wise’ landscaping using drought tolerant, indigenous shrubs. Construction is proceeding on schedule and will be complete in the Spring of 2012.

JOHN RYAN RESIDENCE, TERRACE, BC

Renovations to the back yard of this beautiful residence included a new patio, deck, outdoor kitchen, gazebo and pond/water fountain. We are presently preparing detailed construction drawings in anticipation for 2012 construction.

BURNABY CENTRAL SECONDARY SCHOOL

Working within a multi-discipline design/build team, JLLA is responsible for all soft landscaping including extensive retaining wall systems.  Key features of the design include an irrigated turf playing field, re-vegetation of a protected ‘riparian zone’, bioswales to collect and retain on-site stormwater, and engineered ‘green’ retaining walls.  This $50 million project is designed to achieve LEED ‘Gold’ certification.

Completion of Phase 1 and occupancy of the school will occur in September 2011. Phase 2 construction of the gym, theatre, running track, parking lot and remaining site work is scheduled for completion in fall 2012.

BC HYDRO REGIONAL OFFICE, PRINCE GEORGE, BC

With the development of a new regional office, we are striving to design a landscape which meets the client's goal of sustainable, low maintenance, and low energy output, in accordance with LEED design. To fulfill this goal, we plan on (i) incorporating drought tolerant plant material, (ii) eliminating the existing irrigation system, (iii) replacing mowed lawn areas with more informal, low maintenance grass areas, (iv) incorporating an onsite storm water management program, and (v) retaining all existing naturalized vegetated areas.

KNOWLEDGE GARDEN, PRINCE GEORGE PUBLIC LIBRARY

Working with the library committee, we are designing a public space between the downtown library and Civic Centre, that will entice residents to read, learn, and enjoy the outdoors. Additional goals include (i) the development of an outdoor stage for children's programs, (ii) enhanced security and safety, (iii) photo opportunities, and (iv) feature predominantly indigenous plant material.
